I Don’t Write Enough

I’m currently listening to: Headlights - Towers

Every time I open my web browser I click through my list of favorites, only so that I can see who has updated their blog/website.   I frequently ponder how hypocritical it must seem that I rarely post on my own blog.  Often I feel this is because nobody would care about what goes on in my daily life.  Then I realize that I desperately seek out the reports others write about their mundane tasks.  So here goes nothing.

This weekend I went home to get a bunch of stuff done.  Here is a list of things I accomplished this weekend:

  • Got my haircut
  • Measured for tuxedo in Jen’s wedding
  • Visited with parents
  • Hung out with Patrick
  • Saw Nina/David
  • Bought a second pair of jeans

I got back to Champaign last night.  This morning, when I woke up, I found that my package from Polyvinyl Records arrived.  I ordered The Headlights’ new album, Some Racing, Some Stopping on vinyl.  By the way, I absolutely love Polyvinyl Records and Saddle Creek Records (and not just because they included a valentine in my package).  Each of these record labels has instituted a policy of including a digital download card with all of their records.  This means that I can reap the benefits of vinyl (large artwork, better sound, feeling more legit), and still have the music in a readily accessible format.  I consider this to be genius.

I’m currently listening to: Okkervil River - Title Track

You know, with my weblog I have always taken a lot of pride in having a non-standard design. Unfortunately, I no longer feel that I can put in the effort to make my designs look good and integrate well. For instance, if you tried to browse the archives of my site any time in the last three months you know that it looked terrible.

To remedy this solution, I have installed a theme I downloaded from somewhere. I think that this will look a lot nicer, and it reflects something that I have come to learn all too well in Computer Science. You shouldn’t waste your time tinkering with things that have already been done well. Instead, you should leverage the preexisting work, and improve upon the current framework. Who knows, maybe I’ll tweak this template to look even better? Probably not.

Anyways, enjoy the new look.

A new look soon?

I’m currently listening to: David Crowder Band - A Collision - Do Not Move

If you haven’t noticed, I have been posting in this blog on a regular basis for the first time in quite a while. While this might not really effect anyone else, I see it as an accomplishment. However, I have also grown tired of this design, which after its lifespan of one year, has worn out its welcome. You should all be aware that at some point in the (hopefully near) future a new look will appear on shraps.net. I think that this design will probably be a little more simplistic, and involve the use of some larger fonts (Andy better be appreciative). Basically, I’m selling out to all of those new web 2.0 trends. I know you cannot wait to see this masterpiece, but try not to lose any sleep over it.

I am also reverting to my extremely self-centered and arrogant writing style. Its not that I necessarily feel so strongly about the subjects I present, but there is just something about that style of writing that suits me. I haven’t been happy with the quality of my entries lately, and when I looked back, I decided that the posts I was most proud of were all slightly arrogant, and full of absolutes. Basically, if you don’t like that style, you can either stop reading… or suggest a better alternative. Unfortunately for you, I probably lack the literary skill to present my life in an interesting fashion without inflating my successes and failures to epic proportions. I understand that none of you are probably as offended or outraged by small things in my life, such as the previously mentioned fool who passed me on google, but frankly this is my blog not yours, and I could care less.

I’m currently listening to: Iron & Wine - Naked As We Came

Lately, I’ve actually missed blogging, so I figured maybe I should get on and explain my life to the rest of the world. Today was a good day. Firstly, I have but one class on Thursdays, and although this class will undoubtedly be the most difficult, I think it might also be the most interesting. I guess I just like algorithms– I’m a nerd. The rest of the day has been spent reclining on my couch watching other people fix all of the problems with our apartment as I watch the Little League World Series. I probably should have been working on the site for Action Images, but I felt the need to supervise the cable and wall repair guys, they were kind of shady. Now I’m getting ready to go get some free barbecue from CRU at some park. Hopefully we find it this time.

Summer Is Almost Over

I’m currently listening to: Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde - 4th Time Around

I keep telling myself that when school starts I will begin to post in this blog more often. I have a theory of why the posts seem to stop when summer rolls around. Essentially, most of the people I care about are in constant communication with me during the summer. I see my best friends almost every day (or at least every week). As a result, I don’t feel the persistent urge to explain my life’s happening on the Internet. I guess this is a little unfair, as some people might not live in St. Louis (which can only be seen as a blessing for them). Unfortunately, I don’t really feel like typing very much right now. I’m really just wasting time for Curtis to let me know whats going on tonight.

I really haven’t been up to much lately. I just work a lot, and then work when I get home on different projects. I can’t say that I’m unhappy with this though, I really enjoy the work I’ve been doing. At the end of this week I leave for Colorado, on my highly anticipated family vacation. I know, you’re all envious.

I’m no good at blogging.

Sorry guys, this whole blogging thing has been more than a failure this summer, its been a fiasco. Generally, when I am not writing entries, I at least check my blog and notice that I haven’t posted in a while. This summer, I have been so busy that I don’t even sit down at my computer very much, let alone check for comments or anything. I guess thats what having a job that puts you in front of a computer screen for 40 hours a week does to you. Oh well, I don’t really feel very bad, considering most people are normally trying to get me off the computer anyways. I did, however, purchase a new monitor, a VX2025WM. Its a 20″ widescreen display, so I can pretty much just buy a TV tuner and have a 20″ HDTV in my room. It should get here by next Friday.

Unfortunately (or not so unfortunately), I won’t be around to accept this beauty, because I am doing the recreation for children’s camp this summer. It should be a wonderful excuse to get outdoors and take a break from RadTech. I am really looking forward to the fun times that will come from it. In addition to this fine use of my week, I will be traveling down to the Lake of the Ozarks as soon as I get back into town with Pat, Jen, AJ, Ross, and the Wilson Family. Good stories will definitely follow.

At any rate, I’m already sick of writing in this thing, so I’ll see all of you later, hope your summers are going well.
